SEBASTIÁN CALDAS
Sebastián Caldas is a Swedish-Uruguayan guitarist, composer, and vocalist, recognized for his expressive and innovative work within the realm of classical guitar. Born in 1977 in Montevideo, Uruguay, he moved to Sweden at the age of two, where his musical journey began.
He started playing classical guitar in Malmö at the age of nine, quickly revealing a strong artistic voice. His formal studies took him to Spain, where he trained under maestro Marco Socías at Musikene (the Basque Country’s Higher School of Music). During this time, he was awarded a Higher Diploma in Music with a specialization in classical guitar and received a prize at the Azpiazu International Guitar Competition in the duet category.
Sebastián later completed a Master’s degree in Music Performance at Piteå School of Music under the guidance of Jan-Olof Eriksson. His artistic development has been supported by multiple prestigious grants, including six scholarships from the Swedish Arts Grants Committee (Konstnärsnämnden) and one from Musikverket.
In addition to his work as a performer and composer, he has studied film scoring and video game music composition at Örebro University and Umeå University. He has also composed music for the documentary series Habitat, directed by Exequiel Caldas and Manuela López Quiroga (Amazon Prime)
