VAN DER GRINTEN

Maarten van der Grinten is a distinguished Dutch guitarist and composer, recognized for his expressive, intimate, and versatile approach that spans jazz, blues, country, and experimental music. He studied at the Hilversum Conservatory under Willem ‘Wim’ Overgaauw, graduating with highest honors, and furthered his studies at the Manhattan School of Music on a scholarship. Early accolades include the Loosdrecht Festival Promotion Prize (1987) and the Max van Praag Award for outstanding accompaniment (1991).

 

Van der Grinten co-founded the Maarten van der Grinten–Benjamin Herman Quartet and the jazz ensemble DIG d’DIZ, recording multiple albums with each. He collaborated extensively with jazz veteran Theo Loevendie and continues alternating leadership with tenor saxophonist Yuri Honing.
